Data catalog key terms

Key terms used in Data catalog.

TermDescription
Metadata CollectorAn automated scanner that runs against a connected data source to discover schemas, build lineage relationships, and populate governance metadata into the Data Catalog.
Data CatalogThe self-service discovery layer where consumers browse and evaluate Data Products, Data Interfaces, and other cataloged assets. The Data Catalog displays trust scores, lineage, and governance metadata, enabling consumers to request access and confirm data usability before building on it.
Data assetsA cataloged data object in the Data Catalog, such as a table, column, view, dashboard, report, database, or schema. Data assets are discovered through metadata collectors and enriched with business context, lineage, classifications, and governance metadata. Assets can be searched, browsed, filtered, and explored by consumers to understand their structure, purpose, and relationships before requesting access.
Workflow Data Fabric HomeThe main landing page and navigation hub for the Workflow Data Fabric application. From this interface, users access the Data Catalog, Connect hub, metadata collectors, business glossary, and other data governance capabilities.
Glossary termBusiness glossary terms define business concepts and can be linked to catalog assets to provide business context. Terms include definitions, synonyms, related concepts, and ownership information. Use glossary terms to bridge the gap between technical data structures and business understanding.
Connect HubThe interface in Workflow Data Fabric Home where Connection Admins create and manage connections to external systems. From Connect Hub, admins configure credentials and authentication and set up metadata collectors.
