Shapes to create a modeling diagram

The shapes available in Enterprise Modeling and Visualization help you create diagrams. You can add a shape to the canvas by either selecting the shape or by dragging the shape from the Shapes palette to the canvas.

Available shapes to create a diagram

Shapes are icon representations in the Enterprise Modeling and Visualization. You can use these shapes to create diagrams for your business capability and applications hierarchy.

Note: In a diagram, hover over a shape to see the connector ports for it.

You can adjust the size of shapes by selecting a shape and then drag any of its edges or corner handles. Pulling outward increases the shape's dimensions, while dragging inward reduces its size.

Following are the different types of shapes available to create diagrams:

Note: You must activate the following plugins to view the respective shapes:

  • SAM Foundation plugin to view the Software product shape
  • Digital Integration plugin to view the Digital Integration and Digital Interface shapes
  • PPM Standard plugin to view the Project shape

  • CMDB CI Class Models (app-cmdb-content) plugins to view the SDLC component shape

  • General shapes
    The general shapes section provides basic design elements that can be used to construct diagrams. By inserting icons such as arrows, circles, and text boxes, you can visually represent concepts, relationships, and processes in a clear and structured manner.

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) shapes
    The AWS shapes library in EA Workspace helps in modeling cloud architectures. These shapes allow architects to design future-state cloud diagrams aligned with CMDB and CSDM standards.
  • Common Service Data Model (CSDM) shapes
    CSDM is a prescriptive data model that defines standardized relationships between service-related objects in the CMDB. The CSDM shapes represent these objects visually in diagrams, enabling architects to model business capabilities, applications, services, and technical components in alignment with the Now Platform.
  • Enterprise Architecture shapes
    Use the Enterprise Architecture shapes to create diagrams with icons related to enterprise architecture.
  • Enterprise Architecture (EA) extended shapes
    Use the Enterprise Architecture shapes to model current and future-state architectures in Enterprise Architecture Workspace.
  • ArchiMate shapes
    ArchiMate® shapes are industry-standard elements used by enterprise architects to create diagrams that represent relationships across different domains of an enterprise. These shapes are used to model the business, application, motivation, physical, strategy, and technology layers.
  • Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) shapes
    Use the BPMN shapes to generate diagrams for your current business processes and model the future state of the business processes.
